She is going to be very good at this once she is well.
She has it planned. Not idly. She has thought about it for a long time and she knows what she would be good at, and she is right about it, because she would be excellent.
She is going to give a lot of time. She is going to be the sort of person who notices. She has actually identified, in her own mind, the kind of person she wants to be available for.
And she is going to start when this is over.
This has been going on for three and a half years. It is a health thing, mostly, with a financial thing attached to it, and neither of them is finished and neither shows much sign of finishing.
She is not making excuses. That is what I want you to understand about her, because it would be easy and lazy to read her as a woman who talks about goodness.
She is genuinely unwell and she has genuinely got very little, and she is holding a plan she cannot start.
But three and a half years is a long time to be about to become somebody, and the woman she is planning to be is beginning to function as a substitute for the woman she is.
So let me ask you, quietly.
What will be true of you before you are allowed to start?
The phrase is about the chance, not the season
Paul finishes a passage about not growing weary, and then he gives an instruction with a small qualifying phrase in it, and the phrase is the whole thing.
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.Galatians 6:10
As we have opportunity.
The Greek is about a moment presenting itself. A season in the sense of an occasion, a chance that comes past. It is not a word about your own readiness or your capacity or the state of your life.
Galatians 6 attaches the doing of good to a chance arriving rather than to any condition being met in the person, and the Spirit who moved Paul put the timing on the opportunity, so the health you are waiting to recover has never once been the gate on this.
Now, gently, and I do mean gently, because you are tired and this is not a rebuke.
Everything you have said about yourself is true. You are unwell. You do have very little. Nobody who knows the last three years would tell you otherwise and I am not going to.
But notice the size of what the verse asks. It does not ask for the woman in your plan. It asks for whatever is possible in the chance that is in front of you.
Galatians 6 sets no minimum on the good to be done and only requires the occasion, and the Spirit was in that absence of a threshold, which means three and a half years of preparing to be somebody has been three and a half years of a threshold nobody set but you.
And look at the sentence just before it, because it matters for you particularly.
Paul has been talking about not becoming weary in doing good. He is writing to people who are already tired.
Galatians 6 addresses the instruction to worn out people rather than to well rested ones, and the Spirit put it there in that context, so being depleted has never once disqualified anybody from the sentence that follows.
Now the turn, and it is sized to what you have today rather than to the plan.
Do the small thing at your current capacity.
Not the version in the plan. The version available to a woman with your body and your week. Half a mile of walking beside somebody. One phone call that you are on the sofa for. One hour, sitting down, with the person doing the talking.
Galatians 6 ties the good to the opportunity rather than to the strength of the one doing it, and the Spirit put that instruction in front of people who were already weary, so beginning while unwell has never once been beginning improperly.
Three and a half years of getting ready. One chance that comes past.
Declare this over yourself
Say these where you can hear yourself. Know what holds them up. This authority is not yours by nature, it is Christ's, and in Christ it has been given to you, so you speak as one representing the King. And you speak under His will, never over it. However He answers, and in whatever way He comes, the outcome is His.
- Better order, you are the condition I set for myself and the verse says as we have opportunity. Galatians 6 attaches the doing of good to a chance coming past and never to the state of the one who takes it.
- Woman in the plan who is going to be excellent at this once it is over, you have stood in for the woman I actually am for three and a half years, and in the name of Jesus you step aside. The Spirit put no minimum on the good and required only the occasion.
- Lord, Galatians 6 says it to people who were already weary from doing good and not to rested ones. I am doing one small thing at the capacity I actually have this week, and the threshold was never set by anybody but me.
